Real Bride - Destination Wedding Essentials
A few months back real bride Anna put together a piece on the blog about her destination wedding. We’ve had some fabulous feed back on it and Anna has now written a further piece detailing all the essentials to consider when planning your destination wedding abroad. Over to Anna…
When planning my destination wedding, we wanted to choose somewhere we knew it would be hot… and Las Vegas certainly ticked that box. My husband Andy and I, got married on June 3rd 2016 but little did we know it would turn out to be the hottest June on record in Las Vegas but also the hottest June 3rd since 1957! It was a good job we’d considered the heat when our planning began for our outdoor wedding, or the 43-degree temperature may have ruined the day.
Whether you’re planning on marrying in Las Vegas too, on a beach somewhere hot and sunny, or pretty much anywhere where the sun is guaranteed to shine, it’s not only important to think about how the wedding party will cope with the heat, but also your guests.
We looked at several options but my most favourite of all was the idea Lianne at LoveLi came up with for our order of service. I had already decided that hand-held fans were a must, and also a nice little keepsake for our guests to use throughout the rest of the day and holiday too. But Lianne took this a step further; rather than have an order of service and a fan, why not have an order of service fan!? I had already been given prices from the venue for generic fans but in fact it worked out better value to have personalised bespoke ones created by LoveLi, even with hand-painted gold handles! I also then hand-tied tiny tubes of bubbles to the handles too.
Other essentials included a water station at our ceremony where personalised labels we used in keeping with our wedding stationery, plenty of shade for the guests whilst waiting, flip flops for the ladies whose feet were struggling with the combination of the heat and heels (although I did see some of the guys wearing the pink glittery flip flops too, so maybe some for the guys too?!), air conditioned transport between ceremony and reception venues and an endless supply of cold soft drinks (as well as alcohol too!) We also tried to limit outdoor photo time as much as possible as the heat was so intense. We also chose our arrival signature cocktail to be cool as a cucumber too… with a Gin Cucumber Martini – it went down extremely well.
These were just a few ideas we selected, but when I was researching there was a whole host of other ideas such as:
- Choc ice / ice pop station
- Iced home-made lemonade stat
- Ice cream cart
- Parasols for all guests
- Face mists
- Personalised sun cream favours
- Wet face towels
- Personalised sunglasses
You may have seen this fabulous big day in the styling sections of our website as we helped the couple with both wedding stationery and their on the day wedding styling. Anna has even got the pics featured in the media with Destination Wedding & Honeymoons Abroad Magazine.
